Play space idea
One of the easiest ways to encourage kids to explore a theme and get creative with new materials is to create a themed exploration table for them.
An exploration table is very simple to set up using things you already have, plus a few craft materials or nature items and some books from the library.

You can set up the table at the beginning of the month and let the kids enjoy it for 1-2 weeks. Use the books and materials to spark their curiosity, and encourage your kids to explore them and use them in their play.
How to set up a fall exploration table
The start of October is the perfect time to set up a fall exploration table for your kids because there are so many awesome nature items for them to play with!
Here is a list of things you can include:
- books about fall
- a nature journal (or a leaf rubbing journal)
- nature items (leaves, acorns, pinecones, chestnuts, twigs, mini pumpkins, etc)
- fall-themed drawings or pictures
- magnifying glass
- labels and vocabulary words
- drawing supplies or fall-themed craft supplies.
(If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you can adapt this idea and create a spring-themed exploration table for your kids.)
