Pretend pirate play

Materials
- black construction paper
- washi tape (or paint)
- paper tube (from a paper towel roll)
- colored paper
- glue and tape
- scissors

Instructions
Invite the kids to create a pirate hat and a pretend telescope and use them for imaginary play.
How to create the pirate hat:
- Place 4 pieces of black construction paper on top of each other.
- Draw the shape of half of a pirate hat on the top paper and cut out the shape from all 4 pieces of paper at a time to make 4 identical shapes.
- Tape two matching halves together to create the front and back of the hat.
- Decorate the hat. Glue the top edges of the hat together and let it dry before trying it on.
How to create a simple pretend telescope:
- Cover the paper tube with black construction paper.
- Add a piece of yellow paper to one side of the paper tube.
- Use paint, stickers, or washi tape to decorate the telescope.
