Play space idea
One of the easiest ways to encourage kids to explore a theme and get creative with new materials is to create a themed exploration table for them.

An exploration table is very simple to set up using just a few supplies and can be used by the kids throughout the whole month. To get started, find a table or a shelf where you can set up the materials so the kids can easily access them.
What to include on your exploration table
Here is a list of things you can include:
- books about emotions
- a feelings check-in station (we created a very simple one that invites the kids to create a face using googly eyes, small rocks, and a pencil to show how they feel every day)
- a worry box (check out this activity for instructions on how to create one with your kids)
- prompts that show different emotions (like pictures, labels, emotion stones, etc)
- emotion stick puppets (check out this activity for more details on how to use them)
- a notebook to use as a feelings journal.
You don’t need all these supplies to create the exploration table. You can set it up with just a few items and books and use it as an opportunity to start conversations with your kids and encourage them to learn more about emotions.
